About

Michael Colucci (he/him/his) is the founder and Artistic Director Emeritus of Redtwist Theatre. In 1994, after acting and teaching for ten years, he began the Actors Workshop Theatre as an itinerant company, which then changed its name to Redtwist Theatre a few years after moving into its home on Bryn Mawr Avenue in the Edgewater community of Chicago. Michael served as producer, director, and/or actor on every Redtwist show for 25 years (over 100 mainstage & off-night productions), until 2019, when he stepped down as Artistic Director. In addition to Redtwist, Michael has worked at various theaters in Chicago, including Court, Victory Gardens, TimeLine, and American Blues. He has been a member of the Jeff Committee's Artistic and Technical Team since 2008, and a member of SAG-AFTRA since 1985.

With Redtwist

Produced every Redtwist show from its founding as an itinerant company in 1994 until 2019, over 100 productions total. Participated in a dozen each as director and/or actor.

Favorite Redtwist memory: Moving into a raw office space at 1044 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue in 2003, and with the newly-formed Redtwist ensemble, transforming that space into what is now Redtwist Theatre.

Up next: Getting back on stage at Redtwist and elsewhere, after many years of running the company and producing shows. Also pursuing a lifelong goal of writing.
