PRESS RELEASE: Chicago Theatre, Equity
Production
Still shining
in her
golden
years, Roslyn Alexander dons tails and tights, top hat and cane for a
show-stopper in Arthur Miller’s heartwarming drama, The Last Yankee,
opening November 14th, as AWT continues its season highlighting
Miller’s hidden treasures of recent vintage.
The Last Yankee is Miller’s unflinching, yet
compassionate ode
to the relentless challenges of a long-term relationship. Jim Farruggio
(in the title role) and Jan Ellen Graves (AWT’s lead actress), gently
navigate middle-age marital terrain as Leroy and Patricia Hamilton,
careening to the far corners of emotional stability. The road to repair
is through the tunnels of a state mental hospital where their paths
intersect with the Fricks.
Played by a charmingly snarky Sam Perry and a
literally
sparkling Roz Alexander, John and Karen Frick don’t even know where to
turn to unlock their golden years-run-aground. Frick immerses himself
in work, as his wife descends into a Fred Astaire-fantasy, but only
after one blazing triumph of self-expression that can only be described
as Arthur Miller meets A Chorus Line. Karen will steal your heart as
she unabashedly stops the show. Truly one of this town’s all-time
leading ladies, Roslyn puts the cherry on the cake of a career that
spans a half-century. Her body of work is a feast of Chicago theatre;
don’t miss this scrumptious dessert.
Opens Nov 14th and runs through Dec 12th with
shows
Thu, Fri,
Sat 8pm, and Sun 3pm. Note: there is no show Thanksgiving Day, but
additional shows at 7pm Sundays 12/5 and 12/12.
