PRESS  RELEASE

Redtwist announces the opening of
Waiting for Godot
By Samuel Beckett

Monday, July 27, 2009, at 7pm
Directed by Guest Artist, Jimmy McDermott

Two lovable and legendary tramps wait endlessly for that which never comes in this unique and visionary production by guest director, Jimmy McDermott. His staging of this groundbreaking play, a recognized masterpiece of the 20th century, enlivens Samuel Beckett’s quintessential story of courage, endurance, and hope like never before.

Vladimir and Estragon are two lovable tramps who comfort and irritate each other all day long, every day of their lives, on their lonely road to salvation. They ponder and yak endlessly about everything and nothing, and some mysterious person or thing called Godot. They are forever planning and scheming to go see this…Godot, but they are forced to wait. And wait. And the waiting itself turns into frustration and patience, ignorance and wisdom, cowardice and heroism, nothingness and myth. One of the finest young directors in Chicago stages this modern classic like you’ve never seen it.
