PRESS RELEASE
Redtwist announces the opening of
The
Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?
By Edward Albee
Monday,
March 2, at 7pm
Directed by Michael Ryczek
The 2002
Tony-winner for Best Play, The Goat,
or Who Is Sylvia? defies categorization. It is, simultaneously,
the blackest of comedies and the most blistering of tragedies,
thundering into uncharted theatrical terrain and clawing relentlessly
at the limits of human understanding, tolerance, and acceptance.
Artistic Director, Michael Colucci, takes the lead role of Martin.
The Play
The Goat, or
Who Is Sylvia? explores the limits of human tolerance by
utilizing the outrageous plot device of a man falling in love, and
having a relationship with, a goat. Three-time Pulitzer Prize-winner,
Edward Albee did NOT intend the play to be a cheap shocker trafficking
in animal fetish and bestiality. It is, rather, a brilliant examination
of precisely what we are willing to tolerate and accept in terms of
human behavior, while asking the eternal question, what is the
definition of love, and who actually gets to define it? At least this
is certain: there is nothing quite like The Goat.
